![]() In FUD we got Master Chief, more Covenant, Warthogs, Hunters, Spartans (who looked awesome and slightly messed up from the training/engineering) as opposed to Randall who just looked like a normal middle aged guy (he was still the best character). Really? This seems a lot smaller in scope, story and effects. I keep reading this had a bigger budget then Forward Unto Dawn. While FuD was nothing to write home about, it at least had sympathetic characters, action, etc. Perhaps Microsoft should either stop creating Halo live action shows or seriously look into what they are doing. Physical models and sets were cool (I enjoyed the weapon props especially)Īpparently Spartans do have a (previously never discussed or hinted at) retirement plan?Īll things considered, I am glad I watched the series more for my ODST armor in H5 than the content itself. No sense of being on a Halo, i.e did all of the architecture burn off? The second stories proved to be more interesting than the main one This was perhaps the biggest culprit of why I just could not get behind any of the characters, as they were never given opportunities to shine. The other half was either ridiculous ("Computer, scan all universe") or just standard exposition. Half of the dialogue it seemed was just nameless space marines quipping at each other. I wish they would have mixed it up a bit with potential damaged Sentinels coming in to play and needing to balance fighting with weapons to conserving power against the worms.įinally, the writing of the series did not do much for me. ![]() Speaking of which, the Hunter worms were a concept that was cool at first, but quickly got old (For a survival horror series on a Halo, why not try Flood?!). As such, they seemed to just be meandering through a canyon until Background Character 3 gets chomped. I understand the Halo was going to cook them all alive, but I never got any sense of scale in how far the Pelican crashed in relation to the Tug. Second, there was very little sense of danger. I'm not optimistic on his appearance in H5 based off this and the H2A cutscenes. We hardly ever see him react to anything and rarely takes charge of any situation, instead leaving his team open for death at the hands of the worms or each other. Also, Locke was completely void of any agency at all. Why should I care that douchebag ONI guy betrayed other douchebag ONI guy? Were they friends at some point? I never got a sense of it because all they did was just make quips at the Sedrans and betray each other. No one was given any substantial back story (besides the former Spartan, but that was more in passing) which made caring for them in the later episodes that much harder. Every goal they set out to achieve did not pay off in the end.įirst off, the characters themselves were probably the most egregious mistake they made. Overall, I can't say I'm impressed with Nightfall.
